LT1-LT4 Modifications - OBDII software + tuning software + laptop =??? - now that I got a laptop a month or so ago, i definitely want to turn it into a mobile scanner/tuner. Welcome to LSX Power Tuning. We use the latest tuning and scanning software, EFI Live, HP Tuners, SCT, BS3, Fast XFI, and Holley to name just a few. ![]() G'day, I've been browsing the web regarding tuning as I find the topic quite interesting. I've recently had the car tuned and am overall happy. There seems to be quite a lot of activity in the personal tuning area. I'm just wondering if any amatures on here have personal expereince with software like and whether they can recommend this pass time. Primarily I'd start playing around with the auto shift settings and torque management. Cheers, Muz Muzzak, we sell a personal version of the tuning software we use, same as oztrack also uses as well as quite a few of our customers. The product is flashscan and can be viewed at flashscan.com (The main advantage - other than it is the best LS1 tuning software - is that the tune you have can be used in EFILIVE, you will be unable to access it with HPT due to them not having free custom operating systems for you to use and hence wont read any of our calibrations. You also have the option of upgrading to realtime tuning with Flashscan if you desire in the future. We also use our own in house custom calibrations and I setup customers computers we have previously tuned so they have acess to there cal they have had tuned. It is a good learing experience to play with your car a long as you keep it to set limits. Flashscan is awesome. Its easy to pick up. Great webforums on tuning have lots of people in all different situations that assist. Nearly every question you could ask has probably already been asked and answered. The Flashscan guys are VERY good at support. The product is userfriendly with great instruction manuals and will continue to get better. The custom operating system developed by Flashscan is great with some extra features over the stock operating system. The software is fun to use - Blackbox logging is also great and with Version 2 wil give hours of logging and ability to flash in tunes without the laptop. Trial and error when a reasonable engine rebuild costs about $6k worries me. The fact that some LS1.com members complain about pinging on PULP after an edit worries me. I bought a mail order tune from Chipmaster and I'm more than happy with it. NO detonation. BETTER economy. BETTER performance. Too cheap mate!! I picked up a spare PCM from a wrecker for $180 so my car was not off the road and it takes me 10 minutes to reset to standard. How much better is a custom tune when compared with a Mail Order Tune?? You'd have to be good to feel 5 or 10 Kw's!! I'd imagine that guys like Daniel that do this every day of the week have the game sussed out to the extent that there's no trial and error and that matters to me. If you're prepared to take a risk (small or large depending on the amount of research you're able to do), then I suppose there's no problem working out you're own tune. I wonder if it will be any better than a professional tune or any cheaper than a Mail Order Tune?? Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) calibrations is not available on the personal edition which kind of sucks considering the cv8z has this. I read in a magazine that the ETC can have additional 'sampling' points entered to make it more responsive - i.e. More twitchy. However this may be no big deal. Not too clear on the benefit's of the custom OS in a general sense for my car apart from compatibility with Dan's tune. Speed Density mode Valet Mode Two Step Launch Control 2 and 3 bar Forced Induction N2O Control Reference PAH, I'm already custom tuned by Dan. I'd like to be able to tinker with the car for personal satisfaction. Not to mention not having to waste a tuners time when I feel like making minor trial and error alterations. Yup, and this is wot I was wondering. Paying less than half the cost for a pro tuner and doing it yourself (and the ability to scan / tune many times over), OR paying big bucks for a pro to do it.
